KKR Wellness Works x ESG’s Sustainable Living Challenge (April 2019)
The Sustainable Living Challenge is a two-week effort throughout April to support employees in being more conscious consumers by helping them to connect the dots between sustainability and personal well-being.
We sometimes overlook how reliant we are on the environment and, likewise, how reliant the environment is on all of us to act thoughtfully. Our choices and actions dictate the quality of the air we breathe, the water we drink, and our physical and mental well-being.
Every few days through Friday, April 26, we will post “conscious” opportunities on KKR Central for you to consider when at work, at home, during meals, on the road and while you shop. Each opportunity will encourage you to think differently about how you use, reuse or reduce items that contribute to your carbon footprint.
As part of the challenge, we encourage you to snap a photo of anything the posts inspire (i.e., using a metal straw, composting, etc.) and post it to the KKR Central Bulletin Board with the hashtag #200for2000. It is not necessary for you to be pictured in the photo.
The goal? 200 posts for 2,000 trees. If KKR employees post a collective 200 photos to KKR Central by April 26, the firm will plant 2,000 trees globally to help combat deforestation around the world. KKR will also purchase carbon offset credits on behalf of the two most frequent posters (offset values will vary per region).
The first post and list of selected practices are now available on KKR Central. We look forward to seeing each of you take action!
Congratulations to all who participated in April’s #200for2000 Sustainable Living Challenge!
Thanks to the efforts of 10 KKR offices and 11 Business Units, we posted 122 photos inspired by sustainable living and will plant 10 times that (or about 1,200 trees) for the effort.
That said, we still have a chance to hit our 2,000-tree goal (and beyond) during the upcoming 2019 Sweat Equity Challenge.
Special nods to Devorah Spadone from Office Operations and Emma Tuzinkiewicz from the Public Policy and Affairs team for their dedication to bettering the environment as well as KKR’s company footprint. For being the top photo posters, KKR Wellness Works will purchase carbon offset credits to the tune of 20 metric tons each at $15 per ton.
We’d also like to acknowledge 3 Business Units who were particularly dedicated to the cause, including Public Policy and Affairs, Private Equity and Office Operations teams.
